BDBMC to invest $500 - challenges the community to exceed matching the pledge
The Business Development Board of Martin County (BDBMC) announced it will partner with YPMC and the Stuart/Martin County Chamber of Commerce to conduct the 2009 Next Leaders Survey in Martin County. The survey, to be performed by Next Generation Consulting, will be partially funded by the BDBMC, which issued a challenge to the community to exceed the match requirement to fi nance the remainder of the cost.YPMC commits that any money raised in excess of the cost will be used to implement recommendations from the survey’s findings.
The Next Leaders Survey is designed to help Young Professionals Organizations (YPOs), such as the Young Professionals of Martin County, measure their impact on their communities. YPOs play a critical role in communities’ efforts to attract and retain talent for two reasons: they help stem the “brain drain” of educated youth leaving the community, and they help attract and cultivate future leaders in the area. In general, YPOs focus on showcasing and shaping a community’s quality of life – one that is attractive to diverse, young talent.
“With today’s young professionals having the capability to live and work nearly anywhere, it’s important to determine what driving factors guide their decisions,” said Jayme Uteschill, chamber Events Coordinator and Young Professionals of Martin County committee member. “We know there are many talented people under 40 in Martin County, and we also know there are many young people who grew up here, currently live somewhere else and would like to return to their community. This initiative will guide our strategy to retain and grow the presence of young professionals in our community – which is critical to the future of Martin County.”
The online survey is slated to launch on October 19, and will be open for a minimum of three weeks and a maximum of six weeks. The data collected from the survey will help YPMC and the Business Development Board of Martin County shape their efforts as they relate to retaining and recruiting younger talent to the area.
“Having a deep talent pool, filled with the “best and brightest youth” from Martin County is critical to improving our economy and to the future of our community,” said Ron Bunch, Executive Director of the Business Development Board of Martin County.
“The expanding or relocating companies that we work with want to know they have access to a diverse, future workforce to underpin their success. Working with the Young Professionals of Martin County on this initiative is a logical next step in our relationship with the group and a smart partnership for the BDBMC. Retaining and recruiting graduates from our great education system in Martin County is a shared goal for our community. We hope our small gesture encourages other members of the community to support this endeavor.”
